Problem: Paint flakes off of Stock exhaust manifolds. 454 with stock exhaust (I show in a stock class)
I have tried Eastwood and Por15, sandblasted the manifolds and even baked them in an oven after applying coating. I even coated the inside (the best I could, with coat hanger and rag). Still the paint flakes off. The car is only driven to 10/12 car shows a year. Any help would be appreciated, getting tired of removing manifolds all time.
Thanks
Bob

I left the manifolds on my 350 bare. I drove it that way for over a year and there never were any rust spots on them.

Bob,
Jet Hot has a grey colored version of their coating that looks real nice. It is pricy but you only do it once. A customer of ours did the manifolds on a 63 Impala about 5 years ago and they still look like the day they were done.

Bob: I just bought some stuff called Calyx Manifold dressing from Zip Products. I saw an article in a 'Vette magazine where it was used to concours-prepare manifolds. All you have to do is wirebrush and clean the manifolds while they are still on the car. After the rust and scale is scraped off, you brush and dab this Calyx creme on. It is nontoxic so you can even use your fingers to put in on in the touch-to-reach areas. After is is applied, you polish it to get it to set up on the manifold. After you fire up the car, the job is done. The container of the stuff is only 12.95, and Corvette Fever used it on a '65 396 car. Check it out at

Hope it helps.

Bob, I did mine using the Eastwood product. I cleaned them real good and then bead blasted them. I followed the instruction on the Eastwood product and the results were great. They have been painted since August of last year "98" and they still look great.
