: Engine Stand from Summit

I'm gleefully in need of an engine stand. I picked up a 4 bolt 454 yesterday. I'm thinking about the 2000# collapsible engine stand in Summit for $119. What do y'all think?

Thanks in advance.

Dale, try this:
I picked up a heavy duty stand that looks just like Summits 1250 lb four leg stand(part number G1014), shop crane that is identical to their part G1029 4000 lb. cherry picker and engine leveler at the Pomona swap meet last summer for a total of $115.00. The crane was the collapsable type for easy storage. The guy I bought it from was named Dave but there were others there selling the same for only slightly higher prices.

DaleP, when I was detailing the engine compartment of my 70SS I bought an engine stand from BJ. It cost me $49.00. I had my complete 396 on that engine stand for ten months. I dragged the engine all over the garage, in and out of the garage and nothing ever happened to the engine stand. Best buy ever.

I have a harbor freight stand that has lasted me for over 5 years. I've only had small blocks on it, but it has never given me any problems. Made in China, btw.

Thanks everyone. So it looks like around $100 is the ticket for the high-end model. Can't spend too much on safety.

Thanks again.

I just purchased the 1000# from Harbor Freight. make sure you order from there free shipping cataloge. The shipping for it would have doubled the price for me.

Hey Dale,

have you tried searching on the Recycler classifieds? Lot of people selling those, especially near us...

check it out:
www.recycler.com (http://www.recycler.com)

I need to find one as well, plus (maybe) an engine hoist...Otherwise, I may just rent the hoist...

I can't remember how much they charge for those? I want to say ~$30/day...?

also no matter what stand you get, cut a piece of plywood to fit on top of the bottom frame..this will catch all drop's and tool's, bolt's you drop..and keep your floor clean...they sell tray's but hey we are wrench head's we like to make stuff ourselves!!! oh I put a border on mine I used 1/2" OSB board and 1"X1" strip's for the edge..worked great!!! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

I bought one of the three wheeled PAW stands for $39.99 a few years ago. Yes cheap, but held up a 461 fully dressed just fine. I was/am on a budget, ok...
