I am putting a turbo 400 in my 64 malibu htp and the car originally was an auto on the column. I am now putting in an original auto floor shifter but it hits hits the tail section of the tranny. Is there anyone who's got any ideas?
I should tell you that I also put a big block 454 in the car as well.

I don't have the answer to your problem, just wanted to say WELCOME to the BEST site on the net. A frequent poster Gene Chas,ie 427L-88 is from your neck of the woods, Buffalo. I'm sure he will drop in and say Hello.

I PUT A T-400 IN MY 64 BUT USED THE COLUMN SHIFT. BIGGEST PROBLEM I HAS WAS THE CROSS MEMBER. TO SOLVE THIS I CUT THE TAIL SHAFT MOUNTING TAB OFF AND MOVED IT TO THE BACK. BY THE WAY SOMEONE ON THIS SITE TOLD ME ABOUT THIS AND IT WORKED.

There are conversion kits on the market, that make your stock into a cable shift design for T-350s and 400s. I think Year One or O.P.G has them. By the way WELCOME TO THE BEST CHEVELLE SITE ON THE NET!

Try "Shiftworks.com" They make a shifter conversion for those cars that had P Glds and will work for installing a T400. You'll also need an electric kickdown and "Lokar" makes a very nyce one and is easy to hook up.
