I'm gonna build a mild 350 for my 81 Malibu.
My goal: 325+ horse, for as cheap as possible.

I've got:
-the stock 305/TH250?/7.5
-rebuilt heads, casting #462624
-standard bore, 4 bolt "0010" block
-.060 over, 4 bolt "207" block
-Ertel 946-P, .020 cast flat tops
-(2)"442" cranks
-cast intake #3973469
-various Q-Jets/HEIs
-69 12 bolt, 3.55 posi
-TH400
-MSD 6AL
-and a die grinder http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

My questions are:
Who makes nice headers for the G body? I hate leaking headers. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/mad.gif
Am I wasting my time with those heads? Would the 305 heads be any better?
Cam recommendations? Prefer something mild.
Will cast pistons surivive a mild nitrous system? The pistons have a plate cast in by the wrist pins. Is this common? Or are these hypereutectic? Should I just bite the bullet and get good ones?

I've been resisting the idea of dropping a Pontiac into there. I've even got a 428 I'm not using. I figure a bottle-fed mouse will be more practical.

I would use the 010 block, bore it,use the pistons you have(as long as they are 350's) , or get a set of K.B. hypereuthectic pistons, you can use the cast 2442 crank. The 624 heads are light weight (bad)castings, and prone to cracks.Have them checked before even considering them. The 305 heads have smaller cc. chambers, and will give you a little more torque, and higher compression, they just need some bigger valves installed to flow properly(more $$$).The ' 69 12 bolt won't fit in the car, unless you move the brackets(Is that what the die grinder is for?) http://www.chevelles.com/forum/eek.gif (Don't cut up the rearend) .You can use a stock intake, but I would pick up a aluminum intake, and run a Q-jet, along with the H.E.I. that you have, just put a super coil on it for more spark. There are several cams that will fit you requirements, it depends on the idle you want, but 325hp is very acheivable, and still remain streetable.Look at a 260 or 268 Comp Cams, or a 270 for a little more lope, also Crane has several, along with Lunati.

67 GTO, you think like I do. I have lots of Pontiac parts and I have a 79 El Camino that I am going to put a V8 in. With a Pontiac engine in a G body I don't think you could get it to hook up to good, too much torq. I have read somewhere you can put in a 12 bolt rear end, I think they make a kit. I am also building a 350 with flat top pistons and a mild cam, my El Camino has a 4 speed Saginaw trans and they were put in Chevys with 300 hp or less so I don't want to go overboard. I think the rear end may hold up if you don't thrash it. Dynomax makes a duel exhaust kit for less than $100.00 but you must use headers so I will proably use Dyno Max headers as well. If you use stock type exhaust manifolds try to get a set from a 305 HO or Iroc Camaro, they have 2.25 inch exhaust dumps on them and are the same style exhaust manifolds as a G body. If you want to make your car handle, Iroc Camaro or S10 front springs bolt right in and are much stiffer.

That rearend will work in the malibu if you buy the Southside Machine Control Arm kit that Southside sells in Jegs or Summit.
