I'm 99% sure they are the same. I don't remember ever looking up a GM power steering pump by engine size. They all produce the same pressure wich is regulated by the P\S gear box itself. You may need a puller to pull the pulley in order to exchange brackets though.

Pump pressure is regulated by two factors, pulley diameter and pump relief valve stack height. Pumps are basically the same, but aren't set up by engine, but by vehicle and steering box ratio configuration. If possible, use the six pump, it matches the car and configuration.

from what I remember the 6 pump has the pulley further away from the pump than the v8 model. I am sure that it will not work with the V8, as it will not line up with the v8 pullys.

droptop70 is 100% correct. They are not the same. The pulley is further away on the six cyl and closer on the 8. The crankshaft pulley will not line up with the 6cyl ps pulley. This is fact because I did this same swap and am currently in the midst of replacing the PS pump for an 8 cyl. A six cyl pump will not work on an 8 cyl. period!

BTW: Anyone know how to "bleed" the power steering pump? Is there such a thing? I have heard to fill up the pump with PS fluid and turn the steering wheel all the way from side to side. sound right, or is ther more to this procedure?

The way I have always bled them was to place a floor jack under the front of the car and raise front tires off the ground, fill the ps reservoir, start the engine and turn the wheel stop to stop about 5 times. Good Luck.

Also remember 69 pumps are unique for that year...have a male instead of female connection on back of pump(or the other way around I never can remember)
