Is there an easy way to take this out in order to replace the instrument bezel (dash pad too--see my other post)? Shop manual says I have to disconnect steering column under the hood and steering column brackets underneath dash.

Go to this page for details. It worked for me! http://www.chevelles.com/aces/vol1/aces_8.htm

You have to do as the manual says. You'll find that you also have to disconnect the center dash support bracket (near the heater controls). You may be able to get away with disconnecting the sterring column support in the interior and not under the hood. You may not have enough clearance to tilt the dash forward and down to get the cluster out. Be prepared to disconnect the wiring from the ignition, headlight and wiper switches. This is easy to do once you get the dash tilted forwared enough to get your hand in.

I learned how to do this from this site. You don't have to take the column loose under the hood. But take it loose inside the car under the dash. I found it was easier to take the dash out and set it on the bench to replace the bezel. The wires to the lights etc. are easier than it sounds to re-connect. On the back of the dash it tells what colors go where. Make sure you have two people as the dash is very ackward to handle. Any questions e-mail me. Good luck.
