Argh! Got a 200R4 tranny because all that is required for use is to move the crossmember back several inches........
Problem is, on my car the member has nowhere to go back to. So did they make a different crossmember? Or must we go to fabricatin'??? (we can ya know http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif )

I'll go look under my 79 in the morning. I am thinking about the same swap and never considered that the holes wouldn't be there. One thing to consider is that the the 200 wasn't used until later and there would have been no reason for them to make the extra mounting for the x-member. I'll let you know what I find.

64 Elky is right, you aren't going to see those holes on anything that isn't 83' or later(If I recall;used to have a T-Type Regal). There are 2 crossmembers, and two locations. The passenger side keeps the same location, but models originally equipped with a th350, or 200C transmission use a mounting location that is at the drivers side front of the frame, next to the toe area. 2004r location is directly across from the passenger side, wich is pretty much under the doors.

81 Elcamino they do use a different crossmember. I know because when we got rid of the 200r4 in the Monte Carlo ss and put a TCI 350 turbo in it would not work so we got a Buick V-8 crossmember without overdrive and it worked.

Oh boy, now all I have to do is go through all the GM cars in every junkyard I know of looking for a 200R4 still in the car with a crossmember holding it up.
Fabricatin' is sounding better.

It sounds like there must be quite a few trans x-members. I know that there are two just for a th350 trans. One is a v6 and the other is a v8. The difference is that the v6 piece has large holes where it bolts to the frame and uses rubber bushings. The v8 piece has smaller holes and bolts down tight.
Another x-member is for the th200? 3 speed trans that has the trans pad offset to one side.
Good luck with your search
