Replaced my 283 with a 350 last weekend. Finally got around to trying to get it started today. I got it going but???? TDC on #1 cylinder is not 0 on my pointer. More like 8 BTDC. Had to move my wires around 1 position on the cap(counterclockwise)to get it running half way decent. Am running a HEI also. The guy I bought this motor off of replaced the timing chain and gears. Any chance it's off one tooth? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tim.

Set the mark on the balancer at zero on the timing tab, pop the cap off, button should be pointing pretty close to where you have your #1 plug wire on the cap, if its off just a bit then yes your probably off a tooth or two, if the button is pointing over to the other side your not on the compression stroke and you need to crank the motor all the way back around to zero on your timing tab again, and drop the distributor in pointing at you # 1 plug wire. Hope this helps, good luck my man
