i have changed from point type ignitin to hei ignition and now when i wire my starter solenoid (which has three posts) which wire do i not need and which do i need to hook up? the book i have shows on 1977 and earlier models the black goes from the battery (+) to the soleniod, and the yellow from the soleniod to the coil, and the purple wire going to the neutral safety switch. will i not need to wire the yellow any more because of he HEI ignition. some one help me figure out how to wire this starter soleniod please........

All you have to do is remove the small outer wire, or just leave it there and tape up the other end of it where it used to attatch to the point type ignition coil.
That would be best, in the event you ever want to switch back.

Does your new HEI have a full 12 volts at both the 'start' and 'run' positions of the ignition switch? If you've hooked into the original power wire for the coil, you won't have 12v to the HEI when the key is in the 'start' position. You will need to hook the starter up as original and join the yellow wire and your new power wire at the HEI unit.

Ya, if you omit the yellow wire ( as I did) you might have a situation where it wont start in the "START" position, but will catch easily once you let it back in the "RUN" position. Took me a bit to figure that one out. Tied in the yellow wire to the 12V HOT and all is good.
