looking for the right set of hesders for my 66 Malibu. Perfer 1 3/4 tubes . Running a 355 small block . with a 4-speed

It depends on what you want from them.1 3/4" headers on a built 355 will give great high RPM HP,but will lack the low RPM torque of a 1 5/8" set.IMO of coarse.

Actually, the smaller tube headers will deliver more low-end torque and the bigger tubes will perform better at higher RPM levels. I'm not calling anyone an idiot, just making a correction for the record. I'm a performance exhaust specialist so I know what I'm talking about.
On my big block, i'm running 1 7/8" tubes instead of the 2". It's a street car so I don't run the high RPM's all the time. Justify your application and make your choice from there. You'll be better off. E-Mail me if you have any other questions. L8R! ERD

Unless my math is wrong,1 5/8" IS smaller then 1 3/4"!

You'd probably be better off with the 1 5/8" headers for the reasons given above. A friend of my turns in the mid 11's with 1 5/8" headers on a 355ci SB (shifts at 7000, through the lights at 7200rpm). Unless you are turning the engine very high the smaller tubes are what you need.

Hey 67drake, I checked 3 different rulers and 1 5/8 is smaller than 1 3/4. not calling anyone an idiot but you might check your answers before calling yourself an expert.
