The rear of the '70 is too low, dragging the mufflers over speed bumps no matter HOW slow I go. So the rear springs have to go, already did the shocks. It's a stock setup, 307/'glide. Just want a nice stock ride height. I tried doing a search, but didn't come up with many ideas. Any suggestions?
TIA!

I am currently doing a rear-end and spring change on my '70. From what I have looked at, spring selection is very confusing - call one vendor to get it by application, another has a table, etc. I used the HD springs for a '71/72 which had the same installed height as the spring that I was taking out. I figured mine had collapsed, so I just want to return to the stock height. But, the new spring has heavier coils, harder to compress.

When ordering the springs, make sure whomevery you deal with can give you the specifications (uncompressed length, installed height and spring rate) on your old springs. This way you can compare it to the same specs on the new ones to ensure that you accomplish your objective.

This is a poor boys trick, but it works. Most auto parts have what the call helper springs. they are for shocks but can be installed inside the original springs as they are smaller dia. and will fit nicely over the two humps in the spring seats.I have even used them to adjust ride height on the front by cutting the first coils off and screwing them in the shock hole.

Hey Fred, I just installed rear stock height springs from National Parts Depot on my 70 and the measurement from the ground to the the top of the wheel well opening is 26 inches. This is with 27 inch tall tires. It sits around 1 inch higher than my old springs did. My exhaust is torque tech 3 inch and have no problems at all with ground clearance. To make it easy on the wallet the springs are only 28 bucks not including shipping. Hope this helps you.

I highly recommend Global West Suspension check out their web site www.globalwest.net - or email Doug Norrdin at gwsuspen@pacbell.net These guys are the suspension guru's. I installed their setup on my Elky and it sticks to the road like Velcro!!!

Ok...the rear springs are in the car. And I am extrememly happy with the results. The ride height is very nice looking, and no more muffler banging. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
I took Thor's suggestion and got a pair from NPD. $31 including shipping!! Bought the bushings from local parts store for $2.50 @, and I was done in about 45 mins from start to cleanup! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks!!!
