I'm getting ready to put in a new temp sensor. For whatever reason, the previous owner had placed it into the thermostat housing instead of the head.

I don't know if it was due to the headers, or what.

But, is there a real difference? Is the block more accurate? What is the impact of moving it back???\

I don't think it really matters where it is as far as functioning goes . sounds like they moved it because of the headers. possibly to prevent melting the wire. a freind of mine has a 65 impala with a 327 and headers, his is in the intake manifold.

Small or bigblock, & what year? The early smallblocks had the sender on the intake, late (big main '27, 350, etc) had them on the left head. Bigblocks were almost all on the head.

I've run both, the head does run a little hotter, but not really enough to be important. Where do you want the wires, what looks good on your motor is probably the biggest factor.
