I have ordered the repair kits for the hinges on my 70 chevelle, what is the best way to remove that tight little spring, then get it back on after the repair, thanks for the help, Steve

Anyway, I think your local auto parts store (autozone here) carries the tool to compress the spring. I hear it is worth the effort you save.

Based on personal experience of hypersonic flying springs, I recommend a spring compressor. Various combos. of vise. c-clamp, visegrips etc only succeeded in dangerous flying springs.
