bigyellow Jul 26th, 99, 7:30 PM I just got my Flowmaster 2.5" exhs. kit and was wondering if any body else used it, how it sounds and performs? Also it didnt come w/ directions I dont know where those funky hangers go, any help would be great. Thanks

I used this kit on my '69 Elky SS with hedman headers. Pipes fit fine except at the rear. I had to rework the tailpipes to get correct (for an Elky) side outlet. I didn't think much of the Flowmaster hangers so used GM style hangers but had to add 2" rod connector type spacers to the hangers at the rear of the mufflers in order to fit in big Flowmasters. With 24" mufflers, everything is a very tight fit. I refit the system several times before I was satisfied.
As for sound, I wish that it were a little quieter but I have the quietest Flowmasters. Performance is great. Hope this helps.

Quadzilla Jul 26th, 99, 7:49 PM So how would this system work on a 70 4 door with hedmans and the el-cheapo summit 2.5" mufflers?

BULKSS Jul 26th, 99, 8:08 PM Fred are those the 70 series flowmaster I was told they are very guiet by a salesman if thats what you have and still wish it was quiet I may go with dynamax Mufflers
Havoc Jul 26th, 99, 8:18 PM Well, Quad, when I put the Flowmaster kit on my cutlass, i had to shorten the intermediate pipes a good 8 inches. I think they are made long enough to accomodate the longer wheelbase of the 4-door/wagon/elky. if my memory serves me correct, the inlets and outlets are on opposite sides of the muffler, so as long as the cheapo summit mufflers are configured that way, you should be fine. if not, take a ride down to jersey some night, find a 5.0 mustang with 2.5" flowmasters and "borrow" them....

As I recall, these were 50 series Big Block mufflers (22x12x5) with 2.5 inlet and outlet. I've checked the '99 Flomaster catalog and I don't think they offer this muffler anymore. I think that #52553 was the part number. I don't know about their 70 series product but they're 2" narrower than mine and that tells me they're louder, not quieter.

Gene Chas Jul 26th, 99, 8:40 PM Fred, these are the ones they told me were the quietest, I believe they called them BB70's. And you say they're still too loud? BTW my foncon with Flowmaster was only a few months ago. I was planning on using these in a 3" system.

I'm past 60 and no longer in the "glass pack" crowd. My Flowmaster system is reasonable to drive on the highway and the noise level goes down when the car is fully warmed up. Noise level on cold start is loud enough to potentially disturbe the neighbors and has a hollow or tinny sound. I'm not going to change but all-in-all, I wish it were quieter.

BULKSS Jul 27th, 99, 7:35 AM Gene I remember talking a few weeks ago with flow master and also the other company that I have seen the guys around here use I was told that that 70s were the quitest Fred Is running 50s so maybe the 70s would be quiet enough I am 38 still fell 17 but am also out of the glass pack crowd MIKE
DaDon Jul 27th, 99, 9:51 AM I just got one too...ordered it from Summit. Mine came without directions too. I called Summit, and they couldn't help, so I just got off the phone with Flowmaster, and they faxed me the instructions. They're also passing along a little kit of stickers and info that was supposed to be in the box. I didn't write down their phone number, but go to *flowmastermufflers.com* The number is there, and they're really nice and helpful. Good Luck!

I've heard that the memory
is the second thing to go.
I don't remember what
the first thing is!?
I recently put the Flowmaster 2-1/2" system on my 71 SS w/454 but had a muffler shop do the work. They only charged the about $80.00 labor to put it in, they said it fit really nice and easy. I did however, go with the Dynomax Hemi super turbos and love the sound. They are nice and quiet "normally", but have good tunes when you get on it. As Fred said, I too don't like the 'tinny' sound coming from the headers(ceramic Hooker Comp.), but you get used to it real quick and it's only at idle with a fairly lopey cam. I really like the Dynomax mufflers and you can't beat the price compared to the Flowmasters.
