I lost the old oil pump for the 454 i'm building, which happened to have the pickup still attached, i think http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif. Anyway, I have another pickup but it is a little to long. Question is how much space should be between the pickup and the pan? TIA

I like to run about 1/4". Have never had an oiling problem with this gap.

Chevy book says to put pickup in loosely and install pan so it will push the pickup in position. Remove pan and give it an extra 1/4 inch. Install tight, tack weld if possible. tom

I give em about 3/8". I like to put a small amount of locklite on the pickup tube before installing into the pump housing.
