: Question about Oil Pressure Gauge....

I noticed something different about my Oil pressure gauge the other day. It seems the needle would always stay around 30 PSI at idle and go up to about 60 PSI as the engine revs when the car's being driven. The gauge still reads the same, but at idle, again at about
30 PSI the needle is kind of jittery now. When you rev the engine it settles right down. What would cause this all of a suddon ? Is this normal ?

Thanks, Gaz

Electrical or mechanical gage?

It's a mechanical gage. The oil isn't over full or low either.

I really don't think it's a problem, as long as you have 20 pounds or more at idle you don't have a lot of internal leakage. Could be a lot of things pressure relief spring, oil filter bypass valve, wear in the gage itself, maybe even the oil. I have a 79 Chevy truck that does the same thing, but it's an electrical gage.
