: Thermostat Temp?? Other Pain

Since I did not put enough silicone sealant on the block rails when I put my Edelbrock manifold on two weekends ago, I get to re-install it this week. Now I am second guessing my Thermostat choice. I used a 180°unit but used to use the stock 195°. Of course I have no temp gauge so I don't know how hot the motor runs. The car runs fine now but leaks tons of oil out the back of the manifold, so not much miles with the 180° unit. Also I got a much nicer Fel pro PN#1256 gasket set recomended by Edelbrock with the heat riser passages already present. Should I use the tin restrictors or run the holes full width?? BTW A mild 305 with 216/228@0.050 cam headers and a Qjet in a 73 malibu tank stock 3 row radiator and underdrive crank pulley

Hi Frank!
I'm running a 180 in my 350 and love it-using a 4 core BB radiator, tight shroud, and a flex fan, temp only climbs when I'm sitting still for a while. Since you have the underdrive pulley, I'd recommend getting a gauge to keep tabs on the heat, and unless yo u live somewhere really cold, I'd put the restrictor in, or block it off completely: no need to heat up your intake unless it's really cold.

I have been planning a temp gauge for 5 years now, still not sure where to put it. Bottom of the dash is real low, would never see it.
It sure is hot here in Boston now, but the winter is real cold, use the restrictors? Thanks for the input
