I just got a new Hypertech coil for my HEI dist. I'm wondering if the stock GM module can handle the extra voltage. Anyone have any experiences with this?

The module is basicly just a trigger device for the coil, the extra power of the coil is the output, relating to the internal windings of the coil, it shouldnt put more load on the module(trigger) it just tells it when to fire, The stock module should be fine.there has been many tests of aftermarket modules with no power gains. I would recomend a good module, like a factory one not a cheapo replacement. The factory has many years perfecting their modules, everyone else just tries to copy them with cheaper internals to lower the price(replacement modules) Most after market ones are good pieces, but no real gains to be had.You can never go wrong with factory pieces.

Thanks Bret. Mine has the GM logo stamped on it bigger than life. Wasn't sure of the function of the module. Had one fail on a 77 Omega with 350 Chevy once. I hated being left in a parking lot because of a module failure.

You might also consider what MSD etc.have to say about "stock" modules. They claim "more precise timing and dwell control" Just a thought............

Thanks for the tip. It wasn't a wire that left me stranded though. It was an internal failure of the module.
