I'm having almost the same problem. I pulled my Flamethrower coil off and put the original back on and it started right up. However, 5 days later, same problem now with the original coil. Plugs were wet and a bit of a mess except for #6 and #8. Cleaned them all, still won't start. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/mad.gif

Do you guys have FULL 12 volts going to the HEI dist??? If not...that may be your problem. Remember these cars cam with points dist. which had a resitor. You need 12 volts to have an HEI run correctly.

Yep, full 12. Cars been running great for the last two years, now no more. So far, started with the simple stuff. Put the old dist. cap back on and the old rotor. Changed coils etc. Fuel isn't the problem. Get spark from coil to dist. ie will set off timing light. However, won't set off light on any plug wire from dist to plugs. Going to put the points back into the dist and see what happens. Try the simple stuff first and go from there. Anybody else have any suggestions or seen anything like this before?

I was just thinking I the car was running when I had the postive wire for the distributor running directly from the battery. but I changed it back the the red wire for the distributor the same day it stoped running

Once plugs get gas fouled you cannot clean them up to work anymore. Make absolutely sure you have full 12v (no resistor wire) to the HEI, and replace the plugs. Apparently the gas destroys the insulator.
