Has anyone installed a new speedo cable only to find that there is still some bounce in the needle? I have my dash apart for restoration, and thought that now would be a good time to adress this-if something can be done. Ther needle definitely got steadier and the noise went away with the new cable, but still some bounce. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rich

I have seen this happend once before. All he did to fix it was to pull out the inner rod, wipe it down. Then lube it with a more 'forgiving' of a grease. The other stuff had some resistance that would fluctuate.

This was on a pretty old cable though. When he first "repaired" it, it bounced.... Then he did it again, which fixed it

If after you have lubed the cable and found it was not the bouncing problem, you will have to have the speedo head re-dampened.

The actual movement inside the head uses a compound called damping grease to stop the erratic fluctuations. The damping can migrate away from where it needs to be and give you just what you describe.

Check the cable first, routing, grease, if no joy, go for the head work.

Thanks for the responses. Ignition man, who would do re-damping?
