I want a mechanical fuel pump so the 502 is not an option unless i go with a intank pump ?? Are there good intank pumps that will work with my stock 67 gas tank ??

any help would be great. thanks

I don`t have any experience with either motor but I just wanted to say that you don`t need a intank fuel pump with the 502. You can run a external electric pump, my friend has the 502/502 and is running the holley "blue" pump. As far as the crate motors, what are the hp and torque numbers? whats the price difference. I`ve heard good things about the GM 454 crate but haven`t heard anything about the other.

The golen motor CO. can do some custom work with me like addinga demon carb and breakerless dist intead of HEI. the hp is 440 hp 552 trq more than the 502 from gm. I just havent heard much about this company so if anyone has please let me know. Thanks

You would only really need an in tank pump if you were running a fuel injected 502 like the Ramjet.

the 502/502 is just that, 502 hp & 502 torque. # 12496962 is "deluxe" version.... complete oil pan to carb, wires to wires & waterpump to starter, get a long block (less starter, manifold, carb, plugs, wires, waterpump etc) # 12496963. 12 month 12,000 mile warranty, parts & labor. if you want to "built it yourself", get the deluxe version 12371171 or long block # 12371204. you get a built partial, built heads, just put the heads, manifold etc on & save some money, but only the "partial / short block" will have a warranty... if anything is changed / modified, warranty is void.
12498777 zz454/440 gives you 440 hp & 500 ft lbs of torque.
ask anyone about the GM engines that have put them on the dyno & they'll tell you they normally put out more HP & torque than advertised..... oh, you get aluminum heads w/ any of these motors, 502's come w/ 850's (454 was dyno'd w/ 850)
info on 502 http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/perfparts/images/parts/pdf/12496962.pdf also, you didn't state what compression was on the other motor, GM's use pump gas, 9.6:1 or so and rated "SAE" HP with brand new parts throughout (if that matters to you)

if you are going to buy a crate motor, stick with GM
..and yes, their hp/tq numbers are slightly underrated too.
I highly doubt the Golen crate motor truly makes those numbers...maybe the 440 HP,but not the 550 ft/lbs. torque.
As far as upgrades go,there is nothing wrong with an HEI and a Demon won't provide any more performance than a 750 Holley 3310 at that power level
