I just got the replacement insert the s/s looking parts that go on top of the console
for a 69 is it neca sary to remove anything first how does this attach Thanks Mike

I've done a few insert replacements, it's fairly easy. Assuming you have the top plate removed from the console, use a putty knife to pry up an edge of the old insert then peel back by hand. If it's stubborn pry off with putty knife. There will be some glue remaining on the top plate, remove with thinner and make sure surface is thoroughly cleaned. Attach new insert with 3M Trim adhesive. As long as you have the top plate out you might want to repaint the black area, I found satin black to be the closest match.
