I bought the Eastwood kit some years ago to remove scratches on a new, date coded '57 T-bird ( I know, I know )windshield that was damaged on my watch. I won't say that it didn't work, but it was so slow that I couldn't justify spending the amount of time that it would have taken to totally correct the problem. The polishing process also optically distorted the glass slightly. My solution, a new $350 windshield. Ouch!

If you can feel the scratch with your fingernail it can't be polished out without distorting the glass itself.

If the scratch is deep enough to catch you finger nail when you run it accross the scratch it is probably to deep to buff out with the Eastwood kit. If its not to deep you may be able to get it out or lighten it up. I do glass work for a living and I buff scratches all the time. If there is any depth to the scratch you won't get the groove out but you can eliminate the white frosted look to the scratch and make it less noticable.

I bought a popular scratch removal kit (they're not cheap) and had no luck with it, even on very minute scratches. A waste of money in my opinion. von

A few years ago, we had a really bad ice storm in Virginia and unbeknownst to me while I was busily scraping the ice off my windshield so I could go home, I was also scratching my windshield (I used a standard plasctic ice scraper!). The Eastwood kit did a great job getting those scratches out, and the marks that I had from the wipers is now all but gone as well.

Though I've heard mixed reviews about the various repair solutions, I think your best bet is to just get a new windshield. There's nothing like looking through a new one. Besides, I've read that deep scratches are just about impossible to repair.

Also, if you're thinking that a new one may be hard to find: my brother has 67 Chevy II SS, and a local installer came up with one in no time flat. It looks great. I would bet Chevelle glass is just as easy to get. Check around.

I ordered a new windsheild out of Hemmings for my 67 for $140 including shipping. It came in a huge crate, no damage. I can look up the supplier if you want.

I have priced an installed w'shield for my 64 (no date code) $165 - check local installers, it may be cheaper than you thought.

Hey jaqazi, I could use that supplier name too. Due to a recent 'incident' my windshield is now severely cracked so... Thanks, Jeff.

The supplier is: All Classics in Isanti,Minnesota, 1-800-699-6472. Most Chevelle windshields are $109 plus shipping. '68 up convertibles are $189. They also have back, door, quarter, & vent glass. von

This brings up a question I've always had... what if you need to replace your windshield and it has the built-in radio antenna? Does anyone make these anymore, or are we stuck with a regular windshield and drilling a hole in the fender? Just wonderin'...

If you opt for the new windshield, definitely call the local shops. This is a very inexpensive item (unlike my Honda Accord). I got one installed dirt cheap. Maybe you can find a cheaper windshield, but get it installed professionally. So many early cars have a problem with the windshield leaking and causing a rusty dash. They now use a thick bead of adhesive (looks like black RTV silicon, but comes out of a monster calk-type gun) that is supposed to be much better than the original ribbon type sealer that the do-it-yourselfer would use. They guarantee their work too.
