Ok, here's the deal. Bought the car w/a crushed oil pan. Put a new one on, taiwan stuff, but sanded thru the chrome on the rails w/80 grit and used a LOT of Permatex Black and scraped and wiped down the block w/ lacquer thinner before install. I'm going thru a lot of oil. Anyone make a 1-piece rubber pan gasket like an SCE for a driver's dipstick 350? It's a 72 Monte. Thanks!

I am not 100% sure but a buddy just gave me a new Felpro 1 piece pan gasket for my 350. It says sbc 57-74 on the box with left side dipstick. I have not opened and checked yet but I will go out and get the number on the package

LO do yourself a favor and get a GM pan...if your timing chain is chrome as well... get a GM timing cover.

Painted orange beats oil covered chrome anyday.

I am almost positive the felpro will work on both pans.

Assuming that the pan is good, you need to be aware that there are two different oil pan gasket sets. One has a thick front seal, the other has a thin one. Up to 1974? uses the thin seal. 1975+ uses the thicker one. You need to measure the drop in the front of the oil pan where the timing chain cover meets it. If my memory serves correctly, 2-1/4" uses the thin seal, 2-3/8 uses the thick style. Get it wrong and you will be losing a LOT of oil. Do a search on this. I've written a lot more detailed explanation some time ago - with part numbers.

Lomonte, if you want a stock GM pan I have several
spares and you could have one free.
Just let me know.

Buy GM pan, Its worht the few extra bucks. I bought a Stock Milodon replacement pan for my 1967 SS 396 and after all the effort taking out the old one and installing the new one I found that the Milodon oil pan was resting on my cross member when I set my motor back down  I had to remove it and end up shelling out some cash for a GM pan, Fits perfect and the Fel Pro 1 piece gasket works great. graemlins/hurray.gif

Thanks for all the good input. I had time to search, and got the Felpro from Northern on the way. Car is going down for a lot of work Dec 1. I have no clearance probs w/ the current pan. I may go w/a GM one, and swap meet this one. Really wasn't too bad to do in the car, and I needed motormounts anyway. Thanks again!
