We just put a new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing in along with our rebuilt muncie. When you push the clutch pedal in there is a clicking noise. I think I put everything in right but maybe I didn't. Everything works great except that darn clicking. Could it be the throwout bearing?

Sounds like the throwout bearing that you are hearing, It might be bad or not be in the fork right.

It may be nothing important, like the sleeve that the throwout bearing rides on. If this sleeve has a ridge on it , you will get this effect, but it is not a big deal. Just an annoyance.

Did you make sure BOTH spring clips on the fork were inside the groove of the bearing? Was one of the clips missing? Sometimes they break off.

It is comon to install the TO bearing incorrectly on the fork. When you look at it, it seems logical the the clips on the fork go on the outside the TO bearing lip, but they are supposed to go between the flange and the lip on the TO bearing. It is hard to explain, but hopefully you got it in right, or you need to pull the trans and check it out. I wish I could draw a picture to make it clearer.

I'm getting ready to take out the transmission again. I am pretty sure I put the throwout bearing in wrong on the fork from the way everyone is telling me. The groove is supposed to be in the tabs I have found out. I put it on the outside. I hope it didn't hurt anything we drove it about 40 miles round trip to get the exhaust fixed. I'll let you guys know what happened later. Thanks DZ.

With some headers the rear tube rubs against the clutch cross shaft arm and clutch fork push rod at their attaching point. With mine the return spring also pulls around the header tube to attach. These all add up to some funny noises. Check them first.

I pulled the transmission out and the throwout bearing was in right. The fingers were right in the groove. I'm going to put another throwout bearing in just to be safe. The throwout bearing that was in there had a flat spot on it to keep it from spinning but the one I put in did not. I hear it is just a different design but does the same thing. Any info on that would be appreciated. Does anyone else have any ideas? I'm stumped.
