Ok, this is not my Chevelle. This is my Toyota 4x4. EFI 4cyl.

I think I have 2 isolated problems

1) It will not crank sometimes, battery is fully charged, then suddenly it will crank. Usually when the engine is cold it does this.

But today
2)The engine will not fire, it cranks and cranks and nothing happens. I checked the ignition, I pulled off one wire and it arced to the manifold. The fuel pump pumps. I changed the filter in January, and the plugs and wires 2 months ago.

I don't know what else to check. Is this vapor lock? What is vapor lock? How do I fix it?

Thanks in advance

Dave

get a timing light and check to see that all 4 cylinders are firing and are firing right.. then check fuel pressure (can buy a pretty cheap guage at sears) and make sure youre plugs look ok and are gapped correctly...

if all is good and still no go, run a compression check.. make sure the gas isnt bad or watered down or contaminated in any way..

replace your fuel filters and maybe cut them open after you change them to see how bad they looked. also, and this is a biggie, check all vacuum and electrical lines under the hood.. ive done a few toyo 22R heads and reinstallation can be a real pain with getting all those wires and hoses back where they belong.. it helps to have a reference vehicle and/or good stickers on the underside of the hood.

maybe that will help. those are the first things I would do... good luck and see if you cant have the computer scanned for codes

how would I get the computer scanned.

It was running like a top last night.

I will check those things you mentioned. This is a real pain becuase where I live. I park in an underground structure, so not much light in there. PITA

well I don't think I can take it anywhere right now. It is too late. Most shops are closed or totally booked. Everyone brought their car into the Chevy Service Center today. So I figure the soonest I can take it somewhere is Tuesday.

Ok, here is another question. Keep in mind this is a EFI Toyota and not my Chevelle.

What could have changed between last night and today? Whatever is wrong was probably wrong yesturday but didn't materialize until today.

So what can be wrong with a car and still let it run? It was running great. got 21.3MPG on the last tank. Best Ever

Fixed it. I think, it runs fine now. I guess it was some kind of vapor lock. I did the procedures to fix vapor lock and it worked. I hope it doesn't come back.

Thanks for the imput
