my car hada dead battery the otherday, when I jumped it the radio stopped turning off with the key.
my battery drains if I leave it connected overnight.
that means my ACC switch is staying on right?
does anyone know what would cause the ACC to stay on?

Maybe not.
Are you sure that you've got the radio hooked up to a power source which is keyed? You may have it wired to a line which is always hot, regardless of the key position.
If you're sure it's hooked up toa keyed power source, then you may have a short in your ignition switch.

To verify this, try turning on other accessories with the key "off". There may be something wrong with the radio or its connections.

I can turn off the radio manually with the button or just remove the face. still the battery dies.

You mentioned "remove the face" so you've got a modern radio.
Most modern audio units have 2 power wires.
One (most commonly yellow) is the memory wire. This must always be connected to power (as in hooked to the "bat" terminal on the fuse box.)To retain programs and memory presets.
The other wire (most commonly red) is the switch or trigger wire. This would connect to switchable power(as in ACC terminal in the fuse box). This tells the unit to quit drawing power (except for the tiny amount needed for the memory) when power is turned off. As in if you switch the ignition off.
Make sure you have your wires connected correctly.
Try disconnecting the memory wire while leaving the trigger wire connected, does the battery still drain?
Then disconnect the radio completely from power, does the battery still drain?
How do you have your equipment hooked up?
