What are the body pieces called that are on either side of the 70 grill that house the headlights, and the chrome bezels go into them then the headlights?

I believe you are referring to the fender extentions.

Well, that's what I told the junk yard guy, but he looked at me like I was stupid for some reason. Sheesh, people these days...

Scott20: Language barriers exist all over the car hobby. Hobbiests and mechanics use different words than the parts books and shop manuals. For expample: "driveshaft" is really a propeller shaft; "firewall" is really dash panel; "rear windoww" is really a backlite; "dashboard" is really an instrument panel and so on. With some of these guys you have to be very creative to find out what the local term is for an ordinary part. Heaven forbid that we start using the same terms as are in the GM manuals as no on would understand.

Like "Strato-bucket"?

2 that I never cared for are "rear fender" and "rear windshield".

They just don't sound right to me.

But Bob, I remember old Chevys that had rear fenders. I still have trouble calling it a rear quarter.

And why is it a rear quarter, I have never heard of a front quarter. you would think that the wrecking yard crews would have heard all the descriptions and would be able to know what was being described.
