I was lookin at takin the starter off of another project I have (58 olds) and they say remove the engine filler plate? Could someone clue me in on what a engine filler plate is? Thanks!

I will try but please bear with me. I haven't seen an early old Olds 371 V-8 engine in a long time..

I think they are talking about the trans adapter casting the starter may bolt to, but may be wrong??

Some of the old engines have a 1/2 lengthed trans bellhousing, then a 1/2 lengthed bellhousing adapter casting and then a real short bellhousing on the rear of the block or maybe just the rear block flat face..

Does this make since???

Check a flathead Ford block with the 1/2 bellhousing on it's rear and you will get an idea of all this

I know my '55, 265's, iron cased, P/G auto tranny had a 1/2 casting adapter and the starter bolted to it.
