I have the felpro 1pc (blue)rubber oil pan gasket for my 396 but there is no info at all with it for proper tourqe which must be different from the std gasket because its rubber and much thicker. There is also no in general installation instructions with it which felpro usually includes.

I also logged onto the felpro site but there was no more tech phone # or email contact either which i used in the past which i never wrote down so i could not call them.(Do any of you guys have the felpro tech line #?)

1)So please tell me what your experience has been with the 1 pc pan gasket and what the proper torque and installation proceedure is when using it.

2)Also,in the past i have always put a small dab of silicon on the main cap edge and also on the rubber ends of the main seal where they but together which has worked fine for me. Now the info with my felpo main seal states in bold print not to use any silicon on rubber ends that but together and i fgure they make the part and should know the best way to install it. But all the advice, articles i read say to use silicon where the ends but together,i am confused on weather to use the silicon or not, what the correct thing to do here?

3) I have heard that there is a new double lip main seal out by felpro for better sealing with a 2nd lip further out on a new location on the crank.?

Have you seen this and if so do you have the pt# for a 69/396?

thanks......Scott

If I remember correctly, the blue gasket has metal sleeves in all the bolt holes to prevent over torquing. I'd say just torque the pan bolts to spec(off-hand I think they are something like 7-10ft-lbs for the small bolts and 10-15ft-lbs for the 4 larger ones. I think.....)

As far as putting silicone in the corners, it's a one piece so there is no need. On a 4 piece "traditional" gasket, there was a leak path where the cork met the rubber so they put a bit of silicone to eliminate it. That's why the one piece is so nice...

As far as the new rear main number, sorry, can't help.

Scott; I just got my 402 completely apart today and I've always used a little rtv between the rear cap mating surface, rear part of cap and also tried the trick of installing the seal non flush with the block and cap; about a 1/4 in. protruding on one end of seal.and I put a very small dab of rtv here also.Well that was 2200 miles ago. When I pulled it apart I could tell that the surface was dry at the cap and seal both,But it looked like it may have been leaking at the backside of the seal on the cap part.Hmmm;not sure why,but I did notice it seeped oil at the back of the pan area. Not bad though and this is not why I pulled the motor apart either;thats another long story.Anyway I've already purchased the one pc. gasket also o I hope when its all back together i won't have that pesky little leak.Good Luck.Tony
