Hey guys I had to rip arpart my engine to check for a crack in the block and I took the heads off, my uncle said while I have them out i should take them to a machine shop and they get them redone. Now Im looking for and increase in Horepower and I took it to the place and they said they dont do boring but they put all new spring and valves and such on it for $150 a head now does this sound worth it or should I look into a new set of heads, and comments are welcome thanks

My local machine shop does very good work, so for me it would be worth it, I'd rather have my parts reworked, then buy recon. you know what your getting.

$150 sounds awfully cheap to me... I just had my heads rebuilt and good valves will run you $150 alone! If they don't do much boring or anything, then I'd look for another shop! If they DON'T need any new seats or guides or anything (unlikely!) then maybe some cheap vlaves and springs would be less than $200, but I don't see how! My cheapest head job so far only needed one new seat, no new guides, but all new valves and new springs (which I got a great deal on 'cause they were slightly used!) and with my home port job still cost about $500.

Depending on what you want outof the heads, IMO, the cost will only go up from there. If you are looking for all out performance, then many times you can buy some new heads cheaper than having old ones re-done.

Best of luck.
