Thanks , I hate to keep asking these questions but I feel better when I get second opinions on these things. My machinist has said no tighter than .030 on a 400. Now this is where a rookie like myself really starts scratching his head.

A package shortly huh. OHHHH I like surprises.
Those isky lifters are just about the last thing I am waiting for.
Thanks Mike graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks graemlins/thumbsup.gif Thanks again Jerry graemlins/beers.gif

I am assuming you meant .003 not .030 in your above post for clearance.
.003 will work but in my opinion is too much clearance unless you are running syrup for oil :D

I got everything back from the machinist today.
Mains are clearanced at .0023 and the rods at .0024.
I have the pistons, pins, rings, arp studs, head bolts, new oil pump, pickup, oil pump stud, pump intermediate shaft, cam, lifters, timing chain, pan and head gaskets and so on and so on
Still need a fuel pump push rod and push rods once I check for proper length
This is just a FYI follow up post smile.gif

I will clean the block thoroughly and do a pre-assembly checking clearances (plasti-guage)and piston to valve clearance

Should be good to go,

As much as I would like to dive into this right now I am going to have to hold myself back. I better think about this for a wee bit before I start. I am going to make myself a little plan to follow so I don't start going to fast with my excitement. Damn, why can't I get this excited about my day job :D
Thanks for the offer for advice Mike, I am sure I will be posting a few questions.
As for moving out the coffee table and such I will ask the war department and see what she says

Thanks again
