Okay,

I bought a new fuel filter the other day and tried to put it on, but when I started to disconnect the fuel line fuel began to spuew out. Im sure the answer is simple, but how do I keep the gas from comming out? Do I just clamp the the hose shut??!?

Well, that's one way to do it. If the engine is off (I sure hope so!) the only pressure you should have in the line is leftover pressure from the pump to the carb. Once this pressure is released that should be the end of it. Just make sure you have enough rags waiting to catch the spilled fuel when you disconnect the line and you should be fine. Make sure to let the rags air dry before discarding them or storing them in a closed container.

That's correct about the fuel line from pump (passenger side of block behind timing chain cover) to the carb. being only somewhat pressurized.

The fuel filter should be horizontal and in the space (about 6 inches) between carb fuel-intake line and front of block. ALSO, I have heard of the clear(see-through) ones letting in more dirt and such.

cantdrive55, if you are installing the filter in the suction line (from the tank to the pump), yes there will be fuel running out, the fuel will be siphoning out from the tank. If after the fuel pump, some may be comming out as it siphons past the pump (only if the filter location is below the fuel level in the tank). Jim
