I bought this big block and I shoed it into my Camino. the motor seems radical, square port heads, high compression, four bolt. very powerful, broke two muncies. The problem is the oil pressure. when its cold it runs around 40 psi at idle after warmed up it drops to about 10 psi and runs like hell. I changed the pump and put in the higher pressure spring and also sliped in new bearings. the same thing happened . Local guys tell me i may have a 66 cam with later cam bearings. I find this hard to belive but what else could it be.

Marco,
First of all, if the cam was the problem, you would know it, there would be no oil pressure to the top of the motor. I doubt that that is the problem. It really sounds to me like the motor just has a lot of wear. Could be main bearings, or even cam bearings. Did you actually measure the crankshaft to see what size it is and how worn it is ? Also, how much pressure does it have hot at 2000 rpm ? 10lbs is awful low for a big block at idle but it depends on the idle speed also. If you have 10 lbs of pressure per 1000 rpm it might live for a while. Could also be a bad oil pump, stuck bypass, missing oil galley plug, etc, etc, etc. By the way, did you try another, known good, gauge ?

Where are all the oil gallery plugs located at on the BBC's? It seems like this would be a VERY BIG leak.
