i have a 72 ss w/manual steering. the steering was kind of mushy when i had it on the road. im in the process of a frame off restification and i have all new suspension components except for the steering box. im wondering if anyone knows where i can get a new manual steering box, or get mine rebuilt. all auto stores around my area sell power steering boxes only....
IS THERE ANOTHER STEERING BOX THAT I CAN USE TO MAKE THE CAR HANDLE BETTER??????

I FOR GOT TO ALSO STATE THAT I INSTALL POLY GRAPHITE BUSHINGS IN THE FRONT AND REAR. HAVE TRW SPRINGS ALL AROUND (HAD HOTCHKIS SPRINGS INSTALLED BUT TOOK THEM OUT DURING DISASSEMBLY BECAUSE THE CAR SAT TOO LOW.)
I WANT THE CAR TO HAVE A STOCK LOOKING HEIGHT.

Due a search of this site on steering. I can remember a while back of people making suggestions of aftermarket steering boxes you can purchase and if I remember correctly there are direct swaps with early 80's T/A's and Camaros quick ratio boxes.

WOULD THESE STEERING BOXES BE POWER OR MAINUAL?

I believe they are quick ratio MANUAL boxes, meaning...they are not as stiff as a true manual and allow for shorter and quicker turning.

Here is a company that I have had great luck with. www.flaming-river.com (http://www.flaming-river.com)

You can send your steering box to Harry's Steering Gear Repair in Fraser MI. (810-296-2929) They do excellent work, I will vouch for that! They did two power boxes for me, one was converted to Trans Am guts and it works great. They charge approx. $185 to do a manual box, I called and checked for you. They also sandblast the case to look like new again.
