I am getting ready to restore my SS dash. I have heard good things about SEM dyes and also about Eastwood trim and bumber paints. I would like to hear how you guys have dones this and what did/did not work well. I have also heard about using silver paint (testors) to do the pods, ect. I just had someone else who restores Dashes tell me that they use chrome paint.
Any suggestions on the best way to detail the pods? Will vinyl dye (SEM) work on dashes and what about the SEM prep...I know that it softens the plastic.
Let me know what worked for you!!!!

There is no paint which will look even close to the chrome finish. The "chrome" paint looks like shiny silver, and the silver looks like gray. While others will no doubt disagree, I think that both make the dash look like hell, but this is just my opinion. You may find that it looks just fine for your application.
Plasticote bumper black is a match for the black on my dash (68), but I don't know how it'll look on other years.
if your dash has other colors on it, I'd suggest getting a spray can of the correct color from a body shop supply store. (talking about the plastic part of the dash) Don't use vinal dye on the plastic. Get paint.
If you need to dye the padded part, all the major vendors carry dye. Check with GroundUp.
