I think you were the one who posted a fuel mileage test with a qjet and a Holley a while back and I can't find it. If it was you, what was the outcome? What holley did you use? What shape were the carbs in? All my qjets are crap that a kit can't fix, the new ones cost too much and that makes a Holley 650 vacuum look good on paper but the new qjet could pay for its self in a few months, I don't know.

Marty,
Here is the link: http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=29;t=003044
The best out of the box Qj beat the Holley out of the box by 2 mpg. I used a Holley 6619 which is a 600 cfm unit that had a reputation for being fuel efficient and very clean.
Four of the carbs were brand new. The fifth carb (Olds Qj) was given a quickie rebuild.
If you check the link on my signature, you will find photos of the 6619 Holley, Pontiac(7045263) Qj, and Chevy (7029207) Qj.
I was very careful to control the conditions of the test as far as humanly possible, so chances are you would see the same result.
Since that was posted I've gotten 17 mpg out of the Pontiac Qj after a jet change. Not too bad for a slippy converter and no overdrive.

Thanks for the info. At two mpg better, a new qjet would make the extra cost up at the gas pump in 5k miles on my truck.

Marty,
Although getting 17 mpg daily driving with city/highway combined isn't bad with the combo I'm running, I'd strongly recommend going to an overdrive trans and lock up torque converter. If I had done that I'd be at 20 mpg.
