: Oil gauge nylon line-protection?

I have an aftermarket gauge under the dash connected by a nylon line. The line runs very close to the left header. Does anyone know of a braided line on the market for this purpose? I really don't want to go with copper tubing. I have heard of exhaust wrap, but does it really work, who sells it?

I thought about just getting a hollow piece of metal tubing for the line to be housed in up to the hole in the firewall to protect it from heat.

David,
Most of the gauge manufacturers sell a braided line kit for pressure gauges. I know Autometer does for sure. I have never liked the plastic lines...seen too many of them leak.

Run 1/4" braided or copper. The additional diameter gives better guage response especially in colder weather. Don't want to start any oil fires! Place a loop in the line on the fire wall side so it won't kink with engine movement during accelleration. You should also run the idiot light off of a tee in case you don't see the pressure drop on the guage if something does happen.

Summit Racing Equipment lists "-4AN braided stainless steel line with 3/16" OD fittings, 3 ft., $29.95" in their catalog. their # is 1-800-230-3030. (-4AN is an airplane parts spec.)

Maybe you can call up your gauge manufacturer and see what is the minimum spacing from an exhaust manifold that they recommend for their product, and share the answer with the rest of us.

For what its worth, I think that you will be just fine if you install your gauge per the manufacturer's instructions. My $0.02

The line is not the problem its the location move it.What ever you replace it with the excess heat is still there.Move the line...FRED

Fred's right, I used a 90 fitting to get the line pointing down and covered it with Russell stainless sheath ( about $3 ).
