One of the reps who calls on us has a 67 Vette with a 427/435HP engine.Same cam as the LS-6.His is restored so he is running stock exh manifolds into the factory side exhaust.Idles quite good.Has a slight lope to it with some tappet noise... Not obnoxious at all.Has an authoritive rumble out the pipes tho.
One of the customers has a 67 El Camino with a 396 in it.He has that cam and is running headers and Flowmasters. It sounds nothing like the Vette. It's rougher and louder.Still quite streetable but the noise level sure when up.
It's not an aggressive cam.GM had to warrenty those engines so they had to be able to go the distance so it's an easy on parts cam. It's also an old cam but they are still usefull if you want a good running easy on parts cam.It wont make the ultimate power but still get you down the road well if the rest of your combo is compatable.

If you want to know what an LS6 sounds like with a stock style exhaust go to www.gardnerexhaust.com/soundclips.html (http://www.gardnerexhaust.com/soundclips.html) and on the left scroll down to the 1970 LS6 Chevelle click on it and turn up the volume.
If the sound clip is too short then click on the Chevelle again then the clip will be longer. There is actually a couple of 1970 SS Chevelle's so make sure you click on the LS6.

Unless you have a very loud exhaust it will not sound very radical at all. The cam is not aggressive it was designed to run for 100,000 mi. in a stock Corvette.

Its done on a 114 lsa, so it does idle rather smoothly. "lumpy LITE" is what I'd call it. Ran a Crane 304 which was a dual pattern with more exhasut duration than the LS6 ( but a similar cam) and it was "lumpy Lite". The real LS6 must be even lighter with its shorter exhaust timing.
"Radcial but Streetable". Yeah, thats an easy order to fill!?!?!
Seriously, there are some great street solid grinds out there, from small torqey grinds that idle nice to hihg r grinds with a wicked chop at idle.
Why dont you fill us in on the rest of the combination and maybe some of these guys can give you some recommendations.

The LS6 I had in 1970 (the one with the unusual rear end :P) was a very mild sounding car. There was no audible clue to the performance capabilities under the hood.
I had a 68 "Hurst Olds" in 67/68 that had a far more radical stock cam with the characteristic "lope" sound. The Chevelle was much quicker with the same gears.
