Does an original oil pan on a 67 396/325 have 1 step or is it a 3 step?

Thanks!!

Ed, I dont exactly know the answer, but I was told "only the 3 step will fit".

I don't know either... the guy rebuilding my engine asked me!!

Does anyone know exactly what the difference is?

Can anyone confirm? Can anyone tell me what the difference really is?

Thanks - Ed

Ed,

I was told by the counterman at a local resto shop that 66-7's, among others, used a 3 step pan. I bought one off the 'Bay to replace the one I had on there, which was a "1 step". Now, I dont know how/why that one worked. It was pretty beat up.

Ended up using a Moroso 20451 6 qt. It was a darn tight fit. In 67, we have that "fatty" crossmember. For e.g., the $60 powdercoated pans from flatlander will not work. The $225 ones from Canton will.

So not any bbc oil pan will fit a 67.

Just sold my "3 step" to a TC guy Dan Dayton, on the West coast.

It would have made the engine install SO much easier.

My 66 original oil pan is one step. Didn't know the difference when I was rebuilding the motor currently in the car and bought a 3 step pan. That second step hits the crossmember and won't let the block sit all the way down, in my experience.

How about a tie breaker? Anyone else know which one I need?

Yeah, we're not helping much are we. I KNOW FOR A FACT the Moroso one works! I think the dpeth measurement ( pan rail to bottom of pan) can't be more than 4.25" if memory serves. Thats the key dimension, right at the 5th or 6th bolt holes from the from.
