Hi all!
I am finally replacing the ole' Edelbrock C396 intake on my 454 for a Weiand Action Plus manifold. Just one question. How do I keep the distributor from getting off time? Duct tape? It has been a LONG time sice I have dove into the realm of mechanical endeavors and have forgotten quite a lot. I hope it all comes back to me!
Easiest way it to mark the position of the rotor (after removing the distributor cap) against the firewall... you can't mark it on the intake since you'll be removing that smile.gif When you put the new manifold on, just stab the distributor back in so the rotor will line up with the previous marking. Just remember the distributor turns when you put it in because of the gear angle. This should get you close enough to start the motor.

Just don't hit the starter or rotate the engine while you have the distributor out and you should be able to drop it right back in place. The oil pump shaft will index your rotor either in time or 180 out. If it is pointing in the same direction when you reinstall it as it was when you took it out AND the distributor falls all the way into place (flange resting against manifold) then you should be set to start it up and do final adjustment of your timing. If it does nothing but backfire through the carb when you try to start it, you probably have it 180 deg out, remove it, turn the shaft so the rotor faces the opposite way and reinstall it. That should get you in the ballpark.
