Hey Gang,

I am in the position to buy a 1965 elki, but sense my primary love is the chevelle (my '70 malibu) I'm not sure what to look for in such a different and early model. It's got a 283, decent interior and an ok body (considering it's almost 35 years old). My queston is, are there any particulars on this year el camino (or el caminos in general) that I need to look at? The guy wants $1800. Is this the going price or should I look for a potential problem that would cause the current owner to ask for such a low price?

Thanks for any info.

That sounds like a good price to me , especially if it is running, lights work, etc..
I have a 64 ; been in, under, around, and through it; don't know of any particular weak points. They will rust around the front and rear windows and could need repair there. No repro quarters available for 64s, but don't know about 65s. Rear wheel well patches are available.
I love em and would go for it if it is as sound as you indicate.

If it appears to be in good shape,I'd go for it. A great piece of real American steel, not many around in good shape. Great project car, and sooo many things you can do with them. El Caminos were meant to work and are excellent daily drivers.

I know you said 65, but I have some info for 1964 El Camino's you might be interested in.

R.P.O. numbers, engine combinations, etc.

If the body is fairly straight, glass is good, chrome is okay, and all of drive train is there, even if it doesn't run, in my opinion, it is worth $1800, Don http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Hey Walker, if you're not interested in it, let me know where it's at. I also live in Riverside county. I've been planning to get an El Camino in the future, but don't have much to spend right now. Would a big rat motor go into this easily?
