I was wondering what it would generally cost me to buy the following items from a parts car or doner car to fit my 66:
Complete posi rear end, perhaps 3.55 or 3.73
Front disk brakes complete
Big block stock in runnig condition or 454 block
Any oppinions would be great

Since you're in CA, I would have to disagree with Skunkynuggets prices. The stuff out east is more expensive than out west. And with the motor, I'd say a builder big-block will cost you a little more. I live in the Portland, OR area, and here's my ballpark guesses:

Disk brake setup: $200-300
Posi rear: $250-350
454 motor (in need of rebuild): $400-500

From what I've seen here in the east:
Posi rear:500-700 more if rebuilt
Disc brake:200-400
454:500-1000 in need of rebuild

Maybe someone knows of some deals somewhere,I'd sure like to know where they are.

Paid $800 for a re-built posi with 3:31's, less brakes. However 67's are rarer, so maybe knock off $100 for yours. That was 1.5 years ago. Check for sale section on this site. I think I've seen some of this stuff listed. John Walker

What do you guys think about a 10 bolt posi. There is one for sale near me. I am not woring about breaking, my engine is about 325hp. Will this be strong enough for a 450+hp big block in the future. I dont know how much or what gearing because I havent called. Thanks for all the replies.

With the right components, the 10 bolt is a very nice peice capable of handling 450 hp with some mods.(remember, the stock stuff is 30 years old)

As for the 454 prices, the northeast winters call for trucks with mondo power. That is why running truck 454's are a bit more plentiful up here. Low mileage ones can go for $400, but that's getting somewhat pricey.

you really shouldnt have any problems with a solid 10 bolt (posi) for a street car, esp. if you have an automatic. if you are gonna be putting some super wide tires or slicks, and doing hard, high rpm, instant hookup launching then i would definately recommend a 12bolt or better. ive never heard of anyone breaking a good checked or rebuilt 10 bolt from high speeds or smokey burnouts http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

I just saw a couple ads in the local trader for 12 bolts 68-72.One was about $100,one was about $250.Email me if you would like the #s,they were in NC.
