I need to know which big block chevy headers to get for my brother's 67. I think we are wanting to get the small tubes since he is running a 396. Stock oval ports heads with a Comp Cams 282S solid lifter flat tappet camshaft. We don't want the 2" tube "Hammer" specials. I did not want to bash any products so I won't say the brand name.
Has anyone had any good luck with Flo-Tech headers. This car just gets driven on nice days so there is no salt going to hit these. I hear the Dyno-max have problems fitting the 64-67 cars. Remember this is a for a 67. The 68-72's don't have as many fitment problems.

Heddman 68190 uncoated about $130 but you will need to strip and paint with High Temp paint or HTC coated 68196 about $300 or Dougs 313 about $400. Enough choices?

I have to hop in here. I have a 67 El Camino with a 454. I used big block mounts. I went with the Hooker comps. I could not be more pleased. I had to slightly clearance a bracket where the prop. valve mounts and a little dimple for the steering( I could have gotton away without this one). Excellent spark plug clearance good groung clearance and oil pan as well(Milodon kick out). I have heard and seen the same combo with headers beat to death. Not sure why. Might be the mounts. This is one happy Hooker guy here though.

Hey live 466 are those the 2" ? We are wanting the smaller tubes. He has not change the engine brackets as of yet. Has everyone that answered here changed their brackets as well?

Yeah, unfortunately for you folks wanting smaller tubes, the 2" Hooker Comps fit my 67 really really nice.

Well I think my brother won't be running his 3/8 rod bolted with stock rods 396 to 7,000 rpms too many times. I have told him to keep it about max of 5500-6000 rpms that way it might hold together. If he had a motor that would safely go to 7,000 rpms he might need the 2" tubes. I know on my 69 when I had the 454 in it, had the 2" tubes and I think the car would have been faster in the 1/4 mile with the smaller tubes but I wanted that ceramic coating on my Hookers so I went with the 2" tubes.
I am getting bored with the small block right now. I might just stick the 454 back in for the rest of the summer and not tell anyone around town and have some fun.

Sanderson probably makes a 1 7/8" intermediate header for your 67. Their stuff isn't real cheap but is of very high quality.

I've read here that Heddman is the place to go for small tube 67 bbc pipes.

I have never seen a set on the 64-67 cars but I did try a set on my 69 with the big block and I could not use them. One side was straight into the transmission crossmember. I guess I could have flattened the pipe with a c-clamp or something and used them. Ever since then I have steered away from Hedman's. I always had good luck with Blackjack headers though. I hear they are the same as Dyno-max. I just checked out a friend of mine that has a 69SS and those Dynomax headers are away from everything.
