Just finished assembling my small block and I have a hydraulic cam, and torqued down my rockers/pushrods the way my "How to rebuild Small Block Chevies" book explained, rotate crank untill cylinder is at TDC then torque down rocker nuts until cant spin pushrod then 1/2 turn more. When I was done I rotate my crank back until number 1 cylinder was at TDC. Now I noticed that some pushrods I can spin freely and some I cant, also it seems entirely on one side of my motor all the rockers are sitting in the same position (like the cylinders are at TDC) for that side but on the other side some of my rockers are in the "valve opening" position. WTH? I thought with a hydraulic cam all the rockers will "settle down" to a position that seems like the cylinder is at TDC. Did I do something wrong? Please help this novice engine builder I dont want to blow up my first motor! graemlins/clonk.gif
BTW I have Vortech heads with the self-aligning rockers if that makes a difference?

Loosen up all the rockers. It sounds like the lifters are collapsed. The idea is to find the "zero lash" point. Instead if spinning the push rod, try moving them up and down. As soon as the up/down motion stops, you are at zero lash. Then add the preload.
