Is there a certain timing mark to start at for other than a stock motor.I have a 350 with the edelbrock RPM power package, alum. heads, intake, cam.I'm also running kb .030 hypereuctic pistons(10.2 to 1) a high volume oil and water pump, holley blue fuel pump, hooker headers, holley 750 dp,crane 1.6 roller rockers, the cam has a.510 lift, and the heads are 64cc ported and polished.
thanks for any help

The initial timing point or TDC is the same regardless of mods. The amount of intial advance will vary and the rpm that the later advances will also vary, but O or TDC will always be the starting point. tom

if you're looking for a guestimate to set your intial timming, start around 10-14 degrees initial. full advance around 32-36 degrees.

Hey Rancon,
John is right, however be careful with the balancer. Chevy made two styles of balacers and the have different marks. One has the keyway set right at TDC the other has it cut about 9 degrees ahead of the TDC mark. both require their own pointer and both will fit any small block; make sure you have the right set. Your compression is a bit high for pump gas so you may have to limit your total timming. Also suggest that whatever your total is, it's all in by 2700-3000rpm. Sounds like a good setup.

Apparently, balancer outer rings can get loose and move, thus throwing off your mark. I would get #1 to TDC and check your mark against the pointer before going too far.
You must have a good Zero before doing any timing.
