Hi guys, I actually have a couple of questions. First, I am going to use Crane Cam Lube to break in my cam, should I still use a can of EOS over the top of the cam & on the lifters??? And also, do GM dealers usually stock it??
With ANY luck I am going to fire my 396 up on Fri, or Sat.. graemlins/hurray.gif Man I just hope this cam lasts more than 2 hrs  , I don't think I got it in me, or the budget to do this all over again...

I have done it. Just make sure you change the oil once the cam is broken in. The stuff can cause serious detonation problems. Just poor it in the oil. Every GM. dealer I have come across carries the stuff.

Scott,
When I recently swapped the cam in my 396 I used the thick cam paste on the cam lobes and the lifter bottoms. I used EOS on the cam bearings and the circumference of the new lifters. I then poured EOS on the rocker pivots, a bit on the cam chain, and the rest of the bottle went into the oil pan. I filled the pan with 30W and pre-oiled the engine.
I doubt that pouring EOS over a cam that already has assembly lube on it's lobes is going to help - the EOS won't get past the assembly lube to the lobes. Probably won't hurt though.
Fired it, broke in the cam, shut it down and changed the the oil and filter. The oil was very thick with cam paste and EOS in it and the filter (mine is the old style) was covered with cam paste but not clogged.
Good luck!
Dan
