: Header Clearance Plan

I have a set of Cast-iron Sanderson header for my 64 Chevelle Conv. both headers hit the frame. To get the clearance I need I would have to heat and dimple the cross member ½ inch deep 3 inches long and ½”.

I want to use these headers because they run quiet. I can’t mill the flange enough to get the clearance I need.

After jacking up the transmission and engine this is the configuration that will work:
Add a 2” spacer to the engine mounts and a 1” spacer to the transmission mount.

Have I overlooked anything that might give me problems? The distributor clears the firewall. The engine and transmission are ZZ4 and 700R4.

I’ll thank everyone now for any input I receive.

If you raise the engine two inches and the tranny 1 inch, you may have driveline angle issues. Also, are you sure you can go up that much without the tranny bottoming out against the floorpan? If you are dead set on using those headers (and I feel your pain...I'm sick of loud/leaky headers too) maybe you can hire a fabricator to clearance your crossmember and weld in some gussets.
