I have been trouble shooting my motor /timming
things are coming together good so far. but i was taking a vac reading at the base of carb and when
the motor is warming up it gives me a vac reading were the needle moves from like 5 to 7gh as it warms up i will get a reading around 10gh but there is still alittle needle pulse 8-10 gh. i was reading in CAR CRAFT that this is a sign of a leaking valve and that a exhaust pulse is a shure sign?? i have checked for air leaks around the base, vac lines and top of the intake and have found no leaks , i was told that it could be leaking from under the intake , how can this be checked to see if there is one?
now i do have a bigger cam than stock, and the car idles around 700/750 rpms and when i hit the gas the rpms stay steady the vac reading dose not
pulse from number to number smile.gif

What kind of cam are you running? With a too radical of a cam it is nornal for the vacuum to bounce around at idle.

One way to check would be to pull the pcv valve out of the valve cover and plug the vacuum source so you don't have a leak.Next plug the hole that you pulled the pcv out of,on the other valve cover pull the breather cap, and hold a piece of paper over the opening if the vacuum leak is bad enough it will try to suck the paper to the hole.
