I'm new at this...so go easy!
I'm considering purchasing a 68 SS with a 396-375 hp. The car has 36000 miles on it and the motor has had a mild cam added other then that its stock. The owner (a relative) tells me that with the compression ratio it doesnt run on pump gas even with 104 octane booster and a lead additive (diesels when shutting down).
He claims that by having hardened seats installed with help the valves close off and get rid of the dieseling problem?
What do the experts here think? Cut the heads? Is there another way to reduce the compression ratio? Thanks in advance.
